Human Trafficking: Sex Trafficking

  • Trafficking involves fraud, force and coercion, as do cults.
  • Using the lens of undue influence, professionals can better learn how to help victims.
Human trafficking is a widely used term that is often misunderstood, as are the underpinnings of how it occurs, and the undue influence and coercion involved in its practice. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, human trafficking is defined as “the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of people through force, fraud, or deception with the aim of exploiting them for profit.”
Sex Trafficking victims are enslaved for sexual purposes. This is very much akin to the goal of cults and, similarly, anyone of any age and background can become a victim of this crime.
