Atop the rocket was the Orion spacecraft, a gumdrop-shaped capsule that broke away from the rocket after reaching space.
My grandson is a total space geek. (He even named his kittens Artemis and Apollo.) Maybe one day he (or another kid who also watched this liftoff) will make it into space -- and that's the beauty of these space missions. They inspire us all.
